Types of Marijuana
There are 3 species of marijuana: Indica, Sativa, and Ruderalis. While Indicas have higher levels of CBD than THC and Sativas have higer levels of THC than CBD, Ruderalis is typically low in both; it is a short, resilient species that is sometimes bred ("crossed") with Indicas or Sativas to produce lower potency plants that are easier to cultivate. The product of an Indica-Sativa cross is generally referred to as an Indica if it is heavy in Indica phenotypes (70% Indica-30% Sativa or more), Sativa if heavy in Sativa phenotypes (30-70), or a Hybrid if it's somewhere in between (40-60 to 60-40).
Some popular Indicas include Kushes originating in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Nepal, as well as the California Hash Plant (originally from Afghanistan). Most Sativas stem from Columbian, Mexican, Californian, and Thai landraces.
Sativas are generally known for lucid cerebral ("head") highs, which make you energized and active. They are useful for combating depression. Indicas, on the other hand, generally produce "body" highs (a "stoned" sensation) great for their analgesic, anxiolytic, hypnotic, and sedative effects.
